The ultimate guide on things to do this summer holiday with the kids

There’s a reason why Bognor Regis is the summer holiday destination for lots of families and has been for many years.

With stretches of gorgeous coastline and beautiful blue waters, it’s a great place to spend hours with a bucket and spade, paddling in the bathwater warm shallows, checking out rock pools, or even just plain old relaxing.

Then there’s all the cafes and shops which sell a multitude of essentials for a day out by the sea, including buckets and spades, ice creams and sticks of rock.

Bognor Regis is a dream destination for anyone who loves the great British seaside and it’s a place where many happy memories can be made.

But, despite having such an amazing coastline right on our doorstep, there’s absolutely tons to do on top of this.

For families lucky enough to live in Bognor Regis and the surrounding areas and for those heading our way for a holiday, here is the ultimate guide on things things to do this summer holiday with kids.

Stuff to do on the seafront – Funshine Days

Throughout July and August, Bognor Regis plays host to a series of awesome free events on the promenade for children to enjoy – aptly called Funshine Days.

Here you’ll find the classic forms of entertainment, from donkey rides and Punch and Judy, to awesome magic shows and other performers.

It’s classic seaside entertainment at its greatest, it’s guaranteed to keep the young ones entertained and best of all – it’s free of charge.  In addition, many of the events are educational as well as fun, teaching children about important issues such as preservation of wildlife and the environment.

The Funshine Days are the brainchild of Bognor Regis Town Council and are run on the promenade around the Bandstand. No booking or registration is needed and activities last between 11am and 3pm, making for a great way to spend the day in between dips in the sea and building sandcastles!

In addition, for older kids and adults alike, between 12pm and 7pm on on Thursday August 2, a giant outdoor roller rink/ roller disco will be set up on the Place St Maur, with some classic 80’s tracks, so don those fluro legwarmers, deely boppers and get moving!

Even more things to do with the kids in Bognor Regis

  • Play Rangers – West Park, Aldwick (mornings) & Avisford Park, Rose Green   (afternoons)

Children from ages 5-16 can join in with the fun on Tuesdays and Thursdays all through the summer holidays. All the equipment and qualified Play Rangers are provided free of charge.

Everyone of all ages can enjoy a game of mini golf. So, why not have some fun in the sunshine? Refreshments are provided in the seating area which overlooks the sea and the variety of holes throughout the course make for a great game.

Step back in time and come and find out all about Bognor Regis’ history. From Sir Richard Hotham to all the famous people who have lived in Bognor Regis, this is a great family day out with lots for the kids to do including dressing up and taking photos! Entry is completely free.

Not only is this the coolest bar to open up recently in Bognor Regis, but TAO on the High Street lives up to its reputation for providing something for the whole family. Every Thursday between 11am-2pm there is a parents & kids/tweens morning, specially designed for the 6-12 year olds. Here kids can be entertained with a lego table, playstations, board games, a pool table and age appropriate movies. Then on Wednesdays, there’s a parents and tots morning specifically designed with 0-3 and 3-6 year olds in mind!

Located in the historic Bognor Regis Arcade, just between the seafront and town centre, this family-run business offers a fantastic way to take the kids out for a special treat. Choose from favourite milkshakes, ice creams, sundaes, waffles, pancakes and decadent desserts. They also have vegan, dairy and gluten free options available.

As usual there will be a funfair on the seafront all weekend and the stunning night time procession will leave West Park at 8:30pm, heading to its destination at the Pier from where the Grand Finale Fireworks Display will light-up the skies at 10pm.

Hotham Park is a huge stretch of green space that is a great place to visit no matter what time of year it is.

From the mini railway that takes you around the whole park, to the cycle paths, the play parks and the delicious food in the Hotham Park cafe, this popular destination offers an excellent day out in Bognor Regis for kids of all ages. Here are a few of the special events going on here this summer:

The Base, Bognor Regis

The Base is not only an amazing indoor space for skatepark users of all disciplines, but is also a hub for the local community, offering a wide range of opportunities. Located near the Shripney Road Sainsbury’s, 1.2 miles from Bognor Regis Train Station it’s a great way to keep the kids active, whatever kind of wheels you’re on.

In addition, on the last Friday of every month, The Base hosts Nerf Night for two hours between 6pm-8pm and they even provide provide Nerf bullets.

Whether you’re looking for a great day out in Bognor Regis, short break, or a longer holiday, Butlins has it all when you’re looking for ways to entertain the kids (and yourself) this summer!

With three contemporary resort hotels, oodles of entertainment, a funfair, soft play, funky spa, a 2012 Quality Coast Award winning beach on its doorstep and its very own water park, it goes without saying that there’s never a shortage of things to do.

In addition to all the fun and entertainment, special events go on throughout the summer holidays at Butlins Bognor Regis, such as their Arts and Crafts Sessions for children of all ages and ways to keep active through sports such as Beach Volleyball, Archery and Fencing.

  • Timecraft Escape Rooms

Escape Rooms are becoming a very popular way to entertain older children this summer and in Bognor Regis we have one of our very own on Station Road. Friends or families of 4-9 people have to get out from a locked room in one hour, solving puzzles, using common sense and teamwork. This particular one is a Victorian England escape game where you’ll get to crack codes, use physics to solve puzzles, decipher secret writings, find hidden compartments with enigmatic messages and do your very best to get out of the room in one hour. Excitement at its very best!

A little off the beaten track…

Last but not least, on the slim chance that you ever run out of things to do with the kids in Bognor Regis, heading slightly further afield, check these out:

  • Flying Fortress, Ford

A huge, award winning, soft play and family entertainment centre for children of all ages, from babies and toddlers, right through to teenagers. All based in a massive aircraft hangar only a stone’s throw from Bognor Regis, check out the three storey soft play in the shape of an aircraft, the time trial soft play, trampolines and hair raising slides.

  • Out of Bounds, Rustington

An action-packed activity centre for families and young people of all ages, offering bowling, clip ‘n climb, adventure golf, footgolf, a huge, several storey soft play area to entertain all the kids, along with delicious food and more.

  • Arundel Wetland Centre

This summer from July 21 – September 3,  kids can become one of Dusty’s Wildlife Rangers at Arundel Wetland Centre. Between 9.30 and 5pm, you can learn to send secret messages, find water and tie bushcraft knots, set off into the wild for the map & compass challenge and hunt for animal tracks, or find out how to forage for natural remedies. Activities are designed for younger and older children so it’s great for all ages.

  • Air Arena Trampoline Park, Chichester

Open seven days a week, the Air Arena trampoline park is a must for kids who love to stay active. When you visit here, it’s all about having fun, in a safe, controlled environment. Bear in mind that children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult and children under five accompanied on the trampolines.

  • Flip Out, Chichester

Another jumptastic time but with tons of added extras . This summer, there’s a new addition to the trampolines of Chichester Flip Out – The Tower. Here you can tackle your way up to the top of the tower through the netting and other obstacles on your own or race from bottom to top and back again with a friend to see who is quicker!

Activities like the Wipeout and The Tower are all included in the standard jump price and don’t forget World Jump Day on  Friday July 20, where you can bounce between 4pm-7pm for just £10 and get a free hotdog too.
