Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, or part of the extended family helping out, it’s not always easy to find activities that keep everyone happy (and don’t cost the earth). But the good news is, Bognor Regis is full of options.
From seaside fun to fossil hunting, here are some of the free and low-cost activities we know go down well with local families.
It’s the classic Bognor experience – and still one of the best.
Pack a towel, grab a bucket and spade, and you’ve got hours of entertainment. From paddling and rock pooling to scooting along the prom and watching the boats, the beach is perfect for all ages. Don’t forget the ice cream.
A local favourite for good reason.
With a huge play area, crazy golf, a miniature railway, plenty of open space and handy cafes, it’s a brilliant spot for a family picnic or an afternoon adventure. Ideal for toddlers through to teens.
Step inside one of the oldest purpose-built cinemas in the UK.
With its traditional charm and comfortable seating, The Picturedrome offers a great experience for film lovers of all ages – especially when the weather isn’t playing ball.
Run by passionate volunteers, this free museum is packed with local history.
From fossils and seaside memorabilia to vintage radios and model trains, there’s lots for curious children (and nostalgic grown-ups) to explore.
A big hit with little ones.
Hop aboard the colourful train that travels along the seafront and let children burn off some energy at the free play park next door. It’s simple, cheerful fun by the sea.
Get the kids hunting for prehistoric treasures.
At low tide, the clay cliffs to the west of town often reveal fossilised shells, crabs and even the odd shark tooth. Bring a magnifying glass and make it an outdoor science adventure.
A peaceful spot tucked away from the crowds.
Bring some bird-friendly feed and enjoy watching the ducks and moorhens. There’s also a small play area close by – perfect for a quiet morning outing.
Just north of the town centre, this 19-hectare reserve is a haven for wildlife.
Ideal for a family walk, the mix of woodland, reedbeds, grassland and ponds provides plenty to explore. It’s free to visit and offers a chance to slow down and reconnect with nature.
For high-energy days (or rainy ones).
The leisure centre has a swimming pool, soft play and school holiday clubs, while The Arena next door offers multi-use courts for football, badminton, basketball and more. Great for burning off energy whatever the weather.
A spacious and well-equipped park just a short walk from the seafront.
With a climbing tower, zip wire, modern play equipment and a nearby cafe, it’s a firm favourite. You’ll also find free parking for up to two hours, making it an easy go-to.
Throughout the holidays, you’ll find pop-up events, fun days and creative workshops in and around Bognor Regis.
Check the What’s On section of the Love Bognor Regis website to stay up to date with free and low-cost events taking place across parks, community venues and the seafront.
A highlight of the summer calendar.
Taking place in August, this quirky event sees would-be fliers launch themselves from the pier in all manner of homemade flying machines. It’s free to watch and always draws a great crowd.
The summer holidays can feel long – especially when you’re trying to keep everyone busy on a budget. But with beaches, parks, nature trails and community spaces to explore, there’s plenty in Bognor Regis to help fill the days with fun.
