Top Sunset Views in Bognor Regis and Along the West Sussex Coast

As the evenings draw in earlier, there is something quite special about wrapping up warm and heading out in search of a good sunset. On those crisp winter days when the clouds behave, sunset watching feels like the perfect way to slow down, take a breath, and still be home in time to cosy up for the evening.

We are very lucky in and around Bognor Regis to have some truly beautiful spots where the sky puts on a show. From seaside strolls to countryside viewpoints, here are some of our favourite places to enjoy the sunset, both locally and just beyond.

West Beach, Bognor Regis
Right on our doorstep, West Beach offers a front row seat to the day gently drawing to a close. With wide open views across the sea, this spot is perfect for a peaceful pause after a busy day. Bring a warm drink, wrap up against the sea breeze, and listen to the waves as the sky changes colour and the sun slips away for the night.

Pagham Harbour, Pagham
Sunsets at Pagham Harbour come with a little extra magic. As well as the soft evening light, you will often be joined by the sound of birds settling in for the night. Surrounded by wetlands, with views towards the South Downs on one side and the sea on the other, it is a calm and atmospheric place to watch the light fade.

Halnaker Windmill, Chichester
If you do not mind a bit of effort, Halnaker Windmill is well worth the climb. The walk rewards you with uninterrupted views across the surrounding countryside, making it a brilliant spot for watching the sun dip below the horizon. On a clear evening, the sense of space and stillness up there is hard to beat.

West Beach, Littlehampton
A short trip along the coast brings you to another lovely sunset spot. Park at West Beach car park, walk past West Beach Cafe and turn right onto the beach. From here, you can enjoy the sun setting over the sea, with sweeping views along the South Coast adding to the moment.

Goodwood Trundle, Chichester
For those who love big skies and panoramic views, Goodwood Trundle offers a stunning setting. Sitting high above the landscape, it is the ideal place to watch the sunset stretch across West Sussex, especially on a clear winter evening.

Any of our wonderful beaches
One of the best things about living here is choice. We are lucky enough to have not one, but many beaches that make beautiful sunset spots. Whether you are closer to Middleton on Sea, Felpham, Littlehampton, Pagham or Selsey, there is always a stretch of coastline nearby where you can pause, look west, and enjoy the view.

Tips for sunset viewing

  • Arrive a little earlier than you think you need to. The build up to sunset, as the light softens and the colours start to shift, is often just as special as the moment the sun dips below the horizon.
  • If you are heading to the beach or planning to spend time near the pier, it is worth checking tide times in advance so you can choose the best spot and enjoy the view comfortably.
  • Bring a warm drink or even a flask of soup to keep the chill at bay. On winter evenings by the sea, a little warmth goes a long way and makes sunset watching even more enjoyable.
  • For quieter stretches of coastline, such as Felpham or Aldwick, bringing a chair or a blanket can make all the difference. A little extra comfort means you can linger for longer and take it all in.

A simple plan, a favourite local spot, and a West Sussex sunset. Sometimes that is all you need to end the day well.
