A Jazz… Boree

A free, exciting evening set in the heart of Felpham in its beautiful C11th church, St Mary’s. Wine and soft drinks are available as you enjoy an evening fusion of radical poetry and Jazz. Jazz-boree is our first fully live event in Felpham since the 2020 lockdown.  Felpham is where William Blake wrote ‘Jerusalem’, and we enjoyed a packed out, standing room only event ‘Unpacking Blake’ celebrating Blake with related Arts in partnership with the Felpham Village Conservation Society. This time we are celebrating William Blake’s 266th birthday with a musical evening of Jazz and Poetry. Very proud to be welcoming back the enormously talented, Multi-instrumentalist Jazz Artist Charlotte Glasson.  Charlotte will be mesmerising with a unique Jazz set with the velvet voiced Southdowns Poet, Barry Smith, a local tour de force and lynchpin of the revitalised BlakeFest 2023.  We were very excited to succeed in booking Sloth of the City just catching Andrea between international engagements; getting that yes to Blake’s birthday Jazzboree. Betty Accorsi is an Italian saxophone player, multi-instrumentalist and composer currently based in Brighton. She studied classical saxophone, piano and composition at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatoire in Milan. Betty is half of an acoustic duo called Sloth in the City, formed in 2018 with percussive fingerstyle guitar player Andrea Martelloni. Their EP Remember Music, recorded in 2021 in London, is composed of originals that blend jazz forms with Celtic folk and Mediterranean music. Janine Booth a well respected performance poet with radical roots describes herself as performing angry middle-aged woman poet. The evening begins with a short talk and demonstrations focused around the small amount we know about by Catherine Blake in front of the William Blake stained glass window.
