Only six miles along the coast to the east of Bognor Regis is the popular seaside resort of Littlehampton. With its award-winning beaches, attractive harbour, wide range of amusements, rides, cafés and restaurants, it’s easy to see why so many individuals, families and couples choose Littlehampton for a memorable day out. With captivating architecture including the Stage by the Sea, East Beach Café and Britain’s Longest Bench, plus an extensive programme of cultural events, Littlehampton is a great place to visit.
Whether you’ve got the children in tow or you’re just a big kid at heart, when you visit Littlehampton a trip to Harbour Park Amusements in Windmill Road is a must. Situated right on the beach, adjacent to the harbour and marina, you can make the most of the various funfair rides or the indoor amusement arcade and there’s even a soft play centre in which to let the little ones run wild. With the sea being so close by, it’s easy to combine a trip to Harbour Park with some time on the beach and there are plenty of cafés and restaurants to choose from.
Whether you prefer a beach with all the traditional seaside stalls and attractions, or one that’s been left as nature intended it, Littlehampton has miles of both. Littlehampton’s beaches are popular with visitors because, when the tide is out, they offer one of the largest areas of sandy beach in this part of West Sussex. Many of the other beaches have pebbles instead of sand. For traditional UK beach holiday amusements, aim for East Beach, or for something a bit quieter, there’s West Beach, just on the other side of the river.
For something more educational (but interesting and fun) take a wander to Littlehampton Museum, which has a broad programme of events, exhibitions, displays, workshops and family activities throughout the year. Enjoy Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman archaeology, fascinating fossils found in the region and learn the history of the town from its origins as a Roman Settlement through the Victorian era to the present day.
Admission to the museum is free and it is located at the top of the High Street at the junction between the High Street and Church Street.
